Player Card Series: 'Smaug' Kytölä - Introduction to Orthodox KaDy Subjectivity

13.07.2010

KaDy students will participate, as a representative of Finland, in the European Universities’ Futsal Championship held in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia this summer (July 18th – 25th). During the period before the tournament, kadyfutsal.net will satisfy the desires of the gossip-thirsty public by publishing an informative player card of every team member one by one. Stay online – any day can be a new player card day!

Anonymous peer review: “The eccentric figure of ’Smaug’ embodies the spirit of Dynamo at its purest. Enormous subjective sacrifices for futsal and for the righteous cause of KaDy in the course of so many years have not been in vain: Smaug’s fingerprints can be clearly discerned in the concrete forms that the recent success of KaDy has taken, i.e. on the surfaces of trophies. The oldest of the Kytölä brothers is not getting any younger, but in futsal court Smaug is always sure to display childlike enthusiasm.”

Date of birth: 9.3.1976.

Height/weight: 179 cm/73kg.

Clubs: KaDy (2002 - 'til I drop).

Major subject: English (University of Jyväskylä).

KaDy-name(s): Smaug, Smaugi.

Strengths as a futsal player? “Staying power, persistence, endurance, stamina and guts. Such an underdeveloped right foot that it makes perfect sense to use the left one as well.”

Interests outside futsal court? “Nature conservation, walks in the woods, beautiful and progressive music, collecting LP's (mainly from 1970's), literature, linguistics, cycling.”

Teme Pulkkinen asked you the following: You have done so much for KaDýs futsal team for many years now. Every team should have a such hard working man like you! Where do you get the energy and time to do all that and a bit more every season and every week? And by the way, what does your wife think about that? “Thanks, Demus!  I actually try to do a little bit 'less' each season, ardently practicing the Art of Delegation. We now have good guys running nearly every sector of KaDy Monster's rhizomatic (cf. Deleuze and Guattari) and epic existence. That said, many daily decisions return back to me, and probably too much of my time and effort still goes to futsal affairs outside the court (after all, it's simply sweating in the court that I like best of all).

To be honest, it's not always easy for my wife or children; of course they are devout supporters of KaDy, but sometimes "too much just ain't enough". It all comes down to compromises and prioritizing. At the end of the day, family and home really are the most important, and then, well... futsal and football, I guess, although it probably should be work and studies. Not to mention personal health, which may face adverse effects from occasional Dynamo-induced stress.”

What have you always wanted to know about a KaDy player but have been too afraid to ask him? ’Jakub’ Kinnunen, a couple of years ago you decided to change Faculty, forsaking studies of Physics in favour of Philosophy. A good decision - as you have often let us know. However, as many performances by KaDy athletes on the futsal court obviously defy The Laws of Physics (e.g. Argo Muridiyazd's acrobatic dribbles or Georg Huhtanen's astonishing perseverence at duels), do you ever regret that you now perhaps miss the theoretic-analytical apparatus to understand, explain and interpret such embodied "miracles"? So do you, perhaps, ever consider restarting Physics - even as a minor subject to support your Philosophy curriculum?
